Friendship

Along the wooden fence with little leaps of faith in between,

Each moment a sharp intake of breath as his bushy tail landed safely,

On a mission home, two blackberries settled firmly in his cheeks,

One for a bird who contrary to her name didn’t like pie, but blackberries too.

Fog

To paint a picture of fog you might expect to see endless shades of grey.

Hazy, lumpy and frost bitten.

But to me, the fog can knock me out cold on the sunniest day of the year,

Without a single cloud in the sky,

In the middle of the afternoon.

Hello From The Future

A list of things that you should do today and every day:

eat chocolate, hug a friend, call your mother and tell her that you love her, invest in yourself, smile at strangers, pet a dog and be proud of yourself.

I certainly am.

P.s please leave your eyebrows alone!

A Pier

A seagull stole my ice-cream.

He didn’t even introduce himself with a hello and a nod.

It was strawberry with raspberry sauce and a chocolate flake.

I hope he only likes mint-choc chip.

If he had asked nicely, I would have perhaps bought him a 99.

Baking

My mother’s familiar hands, overworked and yet incredibly soft.

A flowery and also floury apron.

Sticks of butter.

Weigh the sugar, almost, almost, perfect.

Whisk.

Flour.

Puffs of white dust on your nose.

Crack the eggs.

Pick out the shells.

A spoon for the cupcake case.

A spoon for me.

It smells like home.

Glasses

I lost my glasses last Tuesday.

I think they got sick of doing all of the work and went on holiday.

Perhaps they’re sunbathing in Barcelona.

Perhaps they’re climbing Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.

Perhaps they’re visiting The Louvre in Paris.

I can’t wait to see what they’ve been up to.
