Hello there,
My name is Bethany Davidson (but you can call me Beth). A Lancashire girl by heart, yes I am indeed a full time lover of gravy. In 2018, I moved to the city of Edinburgh after a holiday around the North West coast of Scotland in 2017 saw me fall completely head-over-heels in love with this country. I knew in my heart that I belonged here.
A lover of learning and language,
I trained in England at The University of Cumbria as a SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) and Inclusion teacher, continuing my education at The University of Edinburgh, undertaking a master’s degree in MSc Inclusive Education.
I have over a decade of experience working and volunteering in primary, secondary, mainstream, special and residential schools. In addition to this, I have experience of working with adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, working in the care sector and co-running sustainability workshops in schools.
I am currently writing a collection of children's stories exploring disability and inclusion, set in Edinburgh.
As a child, I grew up understanding that books were golden treasures; visiting the library was my religion. It was when working in a special school in 2016 that I began searching for adventure stories where the main character had a disability or an additional need but it was not the focus of the tale, nor an explanation for how they might react to a situation during school life. A story in which disability was normalised and reflective of our world. Moving to Scotland and visiting its wonderful and wild places crystallised this further in my mind. Adventure is out there and it is ours for the taking, for each and every one of us to enjoy.
My stories aim to be educational, but with the foundations firmly rooted in the magic of imagination. The stories are fictional tales told in a non-fictional environment; combining historic Scottish landmarks and quirky hidden away treasures that bring the stories to life and truly allow the reader to observe the world through my character’s eyes. I want to create books that stimulate positive inclusive conversation between children and adults.
